GPCB extends the storage period of hazardous and other waste beyond 90 days

The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) on April 09, 2020, has decided to permit occupiers to store hazardous and other waste beyond the period of 90 days. As per the provisions of the Hazardous and Other Waste (Management and Trans-boundary Movement) Rules, 2016, the occupiers may store the hazardous and other wastes for a period not exceeding 90 days. Whereas, the State Pollution Control Board, if desires, may extend the period in certain cases.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and declaration of lockdown, the occupiers are ordered to store hazardous and other waste for period of 180 days. Alternatively, the occupiers are also allowed to be stored beyond 15 days after lifting of lockdown whichever is earlier. The occupier shall ensure safe storage of hazardous wastes so that there is no adverse effect on the environment or human health.

This Circular comes into force from immediate effect.
