Animal Husbandry Directorate of Andaman & Nicobar directs veterinary institutions to implement BMWM Rules, 2016

The Directorate of Animal Husbandry of Andaman & Nicobar on March 02, 2020, has announced that veterinary institutions like Hospitals, Dispensaries, Sub-Dispensaries and Farms etc. under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services have to implement the provisions of Bio Medical Waste Management (BMWM) Rules, 2016. All the concerned Senior Veterinary Officer will be “Occupier” and will be responsible for strict compliance of the BMWM Rules, 2016.

In accordance to that, following actions to be taken:-

1. The institutions need to submit the application for authorization or renewable of authorization in Form-II to the Pollution Control Committee, A&N Islands, Dollygunj by all the occupiers.

2. The health check-up of the animal handlers along with the vaccination for the Hepatitis B and Tetanus.

3. The institutions need to maintain and update the Register on day to day basis and displaying of the monthly record in the website.

4. Furnishing of Annual Report to the prescribed authority on or before June 30 every year for the period from January to December of the preceding year in Form IV.

The concerned Zonal Officer of the District will ensure the implementation of the same along with the submission of action taken report and action place to this Directorate by March 10, 2020, and report to be submitted to the Administration for filing affidavit in the Court. The occupiers are requested to submit the Application for authorization in Prescribed Form II to the Pollution Control Committee. The Annual Report is the prescribed Form-IV may be furnished by June 15 every year.
