Andaman and Nicobar issues directions to prevent the spread of COVID-19

The Andaman and Nicobar on March 23, 2020, has issued directions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The restrictions are as under:

1. All shops and establishments to remain shut with effect from midnight of March 23, 2020 except the following: Chemist and Pharmacies shops; Grocery / Kirana shops; Milk Shops / Bakeries; Vegetables / Fruit / Meat shops; Fuel Stations of ANIIDCO and APWD Bunk.

The establishments listed above shall strictly follow norms of Social Distancing of maintaining a distance of at 1 (one) meter from a person, maintaining proper queue system, and not allowing more than 4 persons at a time inside the premises.

2. All private office to be shut with effect from midnight of March 23, 2020. However, cable TV operators, DTH operators, may be allowed to run their offices following strict norms of Social Distancing of maintaining a distance of at least 1 (one) meter from a person.

3. All public places of worship shall be closed from the midnight of March 23, 2020 till the midnight of March 31, 2020.

4. The operations of the government departments shall be on the basis of directions of the General Administration. However, all government departments to strictly abide by the norms of Social Distancing.

5. All Banks functioning in the district shall only provide essential services to the customers and shall strictly abide by the norms of Social distancing.

Whereas, this Order will come in force from the Midnight of March 23, 2020 and will be effective till the midnight of March 31, 2020.

Any disobedience of the above order will invite penal action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860, which specifies the penalty for disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant, against the violator(s).
