The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) proposes the draft Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2020 in order to supersede the Environment Impact Assessment, 2006. The Ministry has set new rules to govern the country’s environment clearance regime for industrial projects like dams, mines, airports, highways etc. The draft imposes certain restrictions and prohibition on the undertaking some projects or expansion or modernization of such existing projects entailing capacity addition in India.

All the new projects or activities including expansion or modernization of project or activities require Prior Environment Clearance from the concerned Regulatory Authority before start of any construction work or installation or establishment or excavation or modernization. The project seeking Prior Environment Clearance or Prior Environment Permission shall make an application through notified online portal in the Forms.

The Ministry invites objections or suggestions, if any, on the proposal contained in the draft notification within a period of 60 days from the date on which copies of the Notification are made available to the Public. The objections or suggestions, if any, may be forwarded to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Jor Bagh Road, Aliganj, New Delhi 110 003, or send it to the e-mail address at [email protected].
