The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) on January 16, 2020, has issued the additional Environment Clearance (EC) conditions for coal and non coal mining sectors. The Ministry had issued standard EC vide Office Memorandum dated August 09, 2018 and January 08, 2019. The Hon’ble Supreme Court in the matter of Common Cause vs. Union of India had directed that the area which has been mined should be restored so that grass and other vegetation including trees can grow in the mining area for the benefits of animals.

In accordance to the Supreme Court Judgement, it has been further directed that after ceasing mining operations, the mining lease holders shall undertake re-grassing the mining area and any other area which may have been disturbed due to their mining activities and restore the land to a condition which is fit for growth of fodder, flora, fauna etc.
