FSSAI clarifies the tolerance limit of insecticides under FSS (Contaminants, Toxins and Residue) Regulations, 2011

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on January 11, 2021 issues clarification on the Tolerance Limit in case of insecticides for which Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) has not fixed under the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residue) Regulations, 2011.

In Regulation 2.3.1 which specifies Restriction on the use of insecticides provided the MRLs of 213 insecticides in various foods, the Tolerance Limit of 0.01mg/kg will be applicable for the case of pesticides where MRL has not been fixed.

It has been clarified that the Tolerance Limit of 0.01mg/kg apply to agricultural commodities and the resultant physically processed foods only and shall not apply to the thermally and chemically processed foods.
